Sylvia K. Alston is a nationally recognized insurance executive, thought leader, and entrepreneur with more than 25 years of experience shaping the future of risk management. She began her career at Zurich Insurance Company in Baltimore, Maryland, before returning home to New Jersey in 2000, where she distinguished herself at some of the largest national brokerage firms in the country-including Hub International, Willis, Integro Insurance Brokerage, and Risk Strategies. Over two decades, Sylvia served in advisory and senior leadership roles, culminating as Vice President, Division Manager, and Private Client Practice Leader of Integro (Ventura) Insurance Brokerage, an entertainment specialty firm, where she led for more than a decade before co-founding Momentum Risk Management in 2019.
As a tactician in personal risk management and wealth preservation, Sylvia has become a trusted advisor to high-net-worth families, C-suite executives, elite athletes, entertainers, and Forbes 400 legacy households. Her ability to navigate complex risk profiles with discretion and precision has positioned her as the go-to strategist for clients whose lives and enterprises demand both protection and agility. In addition, through her consulting arm, The Watchridge Group, Sylvia provides fractional risk management solutions to small and mid-sized businesses, helping organizations across industries-from municipalities to nonprofits, cultural institutions, and privately held companies- address emerging threats and build resilience. Her stewardship enables clients to lead with confidence, pursue greater opportunities, and minimize exposure to risk.
Sylvia’s academic foundation is rooted in her studies in Speech Communication with a concentration in Rhetoric and Public Address at the nation’s treasure, Morgan State University, where she remains an engaged alumna. She is also a graduate of two prestigious entrepreneurship programs: Bank of America’s Women’s Entrepreneurship Program powered by Cornell University (2023) and the Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Businesses Program (Cohort 45, NYC, 2025).
A proven builder and visionary, Sylvia scaled Momentum Risk Management into a national practice with offices in New York City and Short Hills, NJ-steering its growth through the challenges of the global pandemic with grit, resilience, and strategic foresight. Her work and influence extend beyond business into thought leadership and media. A sought-after speaker, she delivers executive workshops and keynote addresses on entrepreneurship, leadership, business threat, and lifestyle risk across the U.S. and abroad. Highlights of her speaking engagements include Temple University’s Fox School of Business, Howard University, Morgan State University, NAAIA, The Black Women’s Expo (Chicago & Atlanta), FinFest by dFree, Prudential’s Blueprints to Black Wealth, IICF, and the Black Women of the Insurance Industry.
Her leadership is equally visible in the civic and cultural spheres. Sylvia serves on the Executive Leadership Team of THE BOW COLLECTIVE, the nation’s premier organization for the top 1% of Black women business owners, where she co-chairs Advocacy initiatives. She is also a Trustee of the Lincoln Park Coast Cultural District, a community development corporation advancing affordable housing, historic preservation, arts, and urban sustainability in Newark, NJ.
Beyond her work in risk management, Sylvia has built a respected voice in media. As a former co-host and producer on SiriusXM UrbanView, she developed and led programs addressing civic and social issues within the African American community. She went on to executive produce and host three specials, Tell Them We Are Rising, The Business of Hair (Parts 1 & 2), and It’s Killing Us. Her success on SiriusXM inspired the launch of her own show, NeXt Nation, a nationally followed program exploring lifestyle, legacy, and leadership, which later expanded into a podcast on Apple, Spotify, and iHeart.
A nationally licensed producer in property & casualty, life, and health insurance, Sylvia continues to mentor the next generation of leaders. She actively advises and coaches students at Temple University, preparing them for dynamic careers in risk management and beyond.
Above all, Sylvia is anchored by her commitment to service, family, and legacy. She is married to her life partner, James, and together they have two children, Noah and Ava.
